The first theorist is Gauntlett- Masculinity in Crisis. As women are becoming increasingly assertive and successful, men don't know what their role is in today's society. Firstly, there is an analysed still of a 'new man', then below that, a 'traditional man.'
The next theorist is Mulvey's theory of The Male Gaze. This is the suggestion that traditionally, men are active and women are nothing more than objects to be desired by men.
Finally, there's Bereger's theory of Ways of Seeing. This is the idea that as an audience, we see things from the cameraman's perception as they construct the image and then, through Barthes theory of semiotics, as an audience we see the image created and make our own perceptions.
