Final Digipack design (update) - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly, Catriona Morgan, Martha Ellison
Here is our finalised Digipack design that we think best suits the genre of music and fits the criteria best.
The insides have been designed by Martha and Catriona using Fotor :
We chose to use the boom box as it is a common association with the Drum and Bass genre. The speaker on the right also (almost) creates the perfect place for the CD to sit when you open the Digi-pack. Fotor was beneficial as we were able to edit it to be black and white, matching the front, and making the inside link more to the outside (which is feedback we received from some audience members.) We also continued the theme of yellow font from the front to the inside (when writing the thank you's) to create a continuity. I think the updated CD Design and Mag Ad are good as they fit the genre much better than what we had previously created.
The front, back and spine were designed by Anna and Izzy on Fotor :
Front
We decided to go with this design for the front of the case because we believe that it really captures what drum and bass is all about. The bright and bold title 'URBAN CONCEPT' shouts the upbeat loud music especially on top of the black and white urban background. Whereas the name of the drum and bass group is featured below the title of the album in a more low key font and colour. We did this to create a contrast.
Back
For the back of the case we wanted to keep the same theme as the front, creating an aesthetic flow. We kept the same colour schemes and font, we also added the record label and a bar-code to help make it look more professional.
Side
For the spine of the case we have kept the same theme as the front and back. The name of the group is written in the same font as the front, but is in white to stand out from the darker background. At the bottom is the logo for the record label. The insides have been designed by Martha and Catriona using Fotor :

Final Interim Evaluation
Overall I am very happy with the outcome of our ancillary products and music video. We changed and edit, and followed audience feedback to create our end result, which not only challenges, but acknowledges the genre, and is influenced by other music videos also in its genre. Our ancillary products work well, linking to our music video and making the artist's identity easily recognizable. The effects and colours used in fonts and shot types displays our music video is influenced by others in the drum and bass genre, yet creates a unique style which is carried out among our products. Although at the start of the project we had a clear idea of what we were aiming for, the changes made along the way have helped us to keep improving our end project, with ideas incorporated from the whole group, and feedback from the audience taken on board, and distributed into our final pieces.
I am happy with the end aesthetics of all three products. Our music video represents our genre well, whilst creating our own identity, and linking to our ancillary products, making it identifiable to audiences who have seen our music video, are interested in drum and bass or who like the style.

Technical Difficulties
We have used lots of different technological products when creating our music video.
such as :
Steadicam, DSLR camera, tripod and GoPro.When using the Steadicam to film, we needed to make to movement of the shot smooth, as although it makes the shot steady, it is dependent on the movement of the person using it. To resolve this, we used a chair with wheels on when doing moving shots to keep the shot steady.

When filming using the DSLR camera and GoPro, we needed to make sue there was enough charge and space to film on both products. We brought back up memory cards just in case we needed more space to film.

Storyboard changes to add to our music videos genre
We decided to add in extra shot types to add variation and meet our drum and bass style. We have now added in birds eye shots, tracking shots and panning shots. We thought these would still be consistent with our style and genre, yet it would add another dimension to our music video.
Here are the storyboard changes that made it to our music video.

Audienece Review (music video) - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly, Catriona Morgan, Martha Ellison
We played our music video to 5 people in our target audience range.
We asked constructive questions, where we wanted any ideas they had that might fit our music video and whether or not the video fitted the genre of drum and bass. The responses we got were good, and we have already started to add in some of their ideas, such as more projections.

Fotor
Fotor was an alternative application we used to create our ancillary products. The tools and effects available suited our genre, and the simplicity of how to use the app really helped. Some features were premium, meaning you had to pay for them, but the effects that were available were varied and there was a wide variety of effects that were available to use.
GoPro use in our music video.
I used a 'GoPro' to film the beach shots in our music video. This was chosen due to its fish eye lens, meaning more of the location could be filmed, compared to taking the shot on a normal camera. I think the effect worked well, and offered a perfect contrast to shot types already used in our music video. The lens worked well in capturing a length of the beach, and capturing the sky. This wasn't originally in our plan to use a GoPro, however after seeing its different effects compared to a DSLR camera, we decided to use it to add contrast to our filming and shot types.
I used Pinterest to research elements of our genre that we wanted to include in our music video. I created a mood board of clothes, makeup and hairstyles that we could use, and looked at props we could feature. Pinterest has a wide variety of image available, which was really helpful, however sometimes the quality, or size of these images were not good.

The digipack - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly
FRONT
BACK
INSIDE (CD)
INSIDE
After creating this digipak, getting reviews and feedback from it we decided that this was not appropriate. Although it matches themes to the music video and theme of the record label, its hard to distinguish the genre of music and imagery of the singer doesn't represent the group that makes up Etherwood.

Final magazine design - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly
After creating this magazine advert and getting reviews and feedback from it we decided that this was not appropriate. Although it matches themes to the music video its hard to distinguish the genre of music and imagery of the singer doesn't represent the group that makes up Etherwood.
Magazine Advert Planning
This is my magazine advert for our album. I made sure the album name, artist name and release date were on it, alongside where you can buy it (the website), what forms the album comes in(CD/Vinyl) and the company logo.
I used our signature yellow colour, to reflect the bands style, and applied colour splashes to the background and colour slashes to the face to represent our bands genre of drum and bass.
I used a bold font, to make the advert stand out among the magazine, and capitalised important information, such as the bands name, the album name, the release date, the name of the featuring single and the forms in which you can buy the album. The colour of the band name would be in our signature 'yellow' style, with other important information being in either black or white, depending on the background colour of black or white, so that the writing contrasts and stands out.
I wrote this magazine advert with formal register, as although drum and bass is dance music, when the audience look at the magazine advert, I want the information to be clear and easy to read and remember.
The magazine cover features the artists face, as I'd like the album to be easily recognizable, and as our music video features the artist, I think the audience will be able to relate the image to the magazine, if they have seen the video.

Magazine Advert Research
I analysed the album advert fro Fufanu, an electronic band.
It represents its genre through its formal register, colour choice and contrast and representation of the band.

Album Cover Analysis
Rudimental Album Cover
Rudimental's album cover clearly demonstrates the band's typical style and genre. The urban location featured in the shots is demonstrative of their drum and bass genre, with the white and black writing standing out among the busy background. Although the album cover does not feature an image of the band, their logo is recognizable for audiences who may go out looking to find or buy the album.
The capitalised song titles on the back cover reflect the band's logo, yet contrast the logos colour.
The mise en scene of the shots are symmetrical yet aesthetically pleasing, with the colour on the front centre of the album cover being the album's most stand-out element.
Reasons behind specific shots in our music video
Sea Images
We chose to include sea shots in our music video to create a contrast between the cities and the artist. We placed these shots in the slow motion section of our music video, which perfectly contrasts the other shot types. Like the song, we added a slow motion effect to the video. The shot alters on the beat of the music and we are really pleased with the effect of this shot in our music video. It also links to earlier lyrics 'Over mountains over sea'.
Lighting Shots
We added in shots of the artist singing surround by lights into the chorus, we did this to show a change in tempo as before the shot was the same shot of the artist at the start of the song, with no signalled change in song pace. The light in this shot adds to our drum and bass theme as it could reflect a 'club' like scene, and echoes the lyrics 'lights flashing by me'.
Dance Shots
Like the lighting shots, we added in dance shots of the artist to compliment the drum and bass genre. We have found these shots work w3ell in breaking up the slow paced elements of the song and the fast paced elements.
