The Final Music Video - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly, Catriona Morgan, Martha Ellison

Final Digipack design (update) - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly, Catriona Morgan, Martha Ellison

Here is our finalised Digipack design that we think best suits the genre of music and fits the criteria best.

The front, back and spine were designed by Anna and Izzy on Fotor :
Front
We decided to go with this design for the front of the case because we believe that it really captures what drum and bass is all about. The bright and bold title 'URBAN CONCEPT' shouts the upbeat loud music especially on top of the black and white urban background. Whereas the name of the drum and bass group is featured below the title of the album in a more low key font and colour. We did this to create a contrast.
Back
For the back of the case we wanted to keep the same theme as the front, creating an aesthetic flow. We kept the same colour schemes and font, we also added the record label and a bar-code to help make it look more professional.
Side
For the spine of the case we have kept the same theme as the front and back. The name of the group is written in the same font as the front, but is in white to stand out from the darker background. At the bottom is the logo for the record label.

The insides have been designed by Martha and Catriona using Fotor :
We chose to use the boom box as it is a common association with the Drum and Bass genre. The speaker on the right also (almost) creates the perfect place for the CD to sit when you open the Digi-pack. Fotor was beneficial as we were able to edit it to be black and white, matching the front, and making the inside link more to the outside (which is feedback we received from some audience members.) We also continued the theme of yellow font from the front to the inside (when writing the thank you's) to create a continuity. I think the updated CD Design and Mag Ad are good as they fit the genre much better than what we had previously created.

Final magazine design (update) - Anna Hester

Here is our new magazine ad design. We think that the advertisement best suits the genre of music, we also linked it to the Digipack. This helps to create a flow between the product and advertisement, giving the group an image which can be identified by the target audience.
The AD features the name of the album and the artists names in the biggest and boldest font, and smaller information like were you can purchase the album is less visible. The record label logo is also featured. There is also a review of 3 stars from both Itunes and the Guardian.

Facebook feedback - Anna Hester

As well as posting our video up to YouTube I also published it onto my Facebook profile. On here we got a lot of exposure and comments about our video. Many being positive and others giving advice as to what we could have done differently. One comment that stood out the most was that they thought some footage was to obvious such as the lyrics signs showing signs, but we had to include this for the examiners criteria.

Interim Evaluation 6/1/16 - Anna Hester

After having winter break we have since received feedback about our Digipack and Magazine Ad. We as a group think its best to revaluate what we have produced as its doesn't reflect the genre of music and neither the mark scheme to get the best grades. Now
we have chosen to base the designs on a design that we previously were considering to use because we realise its better suited.

Everything else so far is going well, the video is completed, the blog is looking better and we are all working together better now.

Technical difficulties - Anna Hester

During our coursework we have come across many problems and issues when using technologie.
The most common that we all had issues with was remembering to use a range of diffrent medias to produce our work; at the begining many of us used Prezi. This made the blog look very dull and did'nt fit the criteria. To resolove this problem we ended up using diffrent presentation websites and ways of recording reaserch, planning, analysis etc. This helped to make our blog look more intresting to look at, but it also helped to fit the criteria.

Audienece Review (music video) - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly, Catriona Morgan, Martha Ellison

We played our music video to 5 people in our target audience range.
We asked constructive questions, where we wanted any ideas they had that might fit our music video and whether or not the video fitted the genre of drum and bass. The responses we got were good, and we have already started to add in some of their ideas, such as more projections.

The digipack - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly

After creating this digipak, getting reviews and feedback from it we decided that this was not appropriate. Although it matches themes to the music video and theme of the record label, its hard to distinguish the genre of music and imagery of the singer doesn't represent the group that makes up Etherwood.

Final magazine design - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly

After creating this magazine advert and getting reviews and feedback from it we decided that this was not appropriate. Although it matches themes to the music video its hard to distinguish the genre of music and imagery of the singer doesn't represent the group that makes up Etherwood.

Magazine advert planning - Anna Hester

Here is an idea that I have created and believe would be appropriate for our magazine advert. From analysing other music adverts in magazines has helped me to understand what makes a good advert, especially when it includes all the key aspects.

My idea here is to have the artists center to frame, the background back making the artist stand out in colour. There is a rectangle frame around the sides of the page, this will be in white with the bottom right corner erased for the record labels name. On the top is the name of the artist in capitals and beneath that in larger writing is the name of the album 'natural', as a group we thought this name was appropriate as is contridicts the style of music. Then beneath the imagery in smaller writing tells you were you can buy the music.

Magazine advert reaserch - Anna Hester

Here is a magazine advert for the drum and bass music genre. I have analysed all the things associated with what you get in a magazine advert, how it relates to the artist or genre and what message its trying to show.
By doing this it has given me a greater understanding of what things we can put in our magazine advert.

Individual CD design idea - Anna Hester

Here is my idea on what our Digipack could look like. I have looked at the main things that you would associate drum and bass music to look like, this being a city landscape and boombox. I think that we should use this design because I think that it fits the genre of music the best, but also looks good at the same time, while also fitting with the criteria.

Digipack inspiration - Anna Hester, Izzy Kelly

We chose these 3 album covers for their simplicity and originality. These album covers follow David Borwell's theory that the audience defines the genre. The covers don't reflect the genre or artists style, also following Mark Reid's theory that the genre changes based on what the audience are told. These album covers don't represent a particular genre, however when the audience know the artist or hear the music, the will apply a specific genre.

The colours in this album cover contrast well with the red standing out among the sepia. This binary opposite draws the audiences attention to the writing, which states the artist and its album name.
The uniformity does not represent the artists usual style, with the symmetrical buildings not reflecting the rock genre and style Led Zeplin is.

I think this style would be effective for our video as although the style doesn't relate to our genre, it reflects the style of our music video, and the uniform placement that is featured throughout the video .

The colours in this album cover perfectly represnts their genre of electronic music. The bright colours are reminisent of childrens toys and reflect the bands fast pace music style.

The artists electronic style is seen through their electronically created album cover. The graphics support the bands upbeat music

I think this style would be effective for our video because we could put little buildings in place of the shapes, to reflect souvenirs, which is the title of our song.

The bright colours on this album are reminiscent of the artists 'rock, house and disco' genre. The image could relate to sound waves, and the colours could reflect the atmosphere of lights in a disco or party, where the bands music is most popular.

I think this album cover would be effective with our video, as we used coloured projections on our artist, which we could manipulate to look like sound waves.

Here are our own interpretations of our inspiration of a music album cover. We realised that the buildings with yellow writing on worked well and reflected our music videos style well. However, the coloured Eiffel Towers, didn't work as well as at times in the video the location of Paris is not fully apparent. The warped colour image didn't work as well as expected, so we decided against that style

Music Video Inspiration (update) - Anna Hester

Since shooting the video and having started editing it, its be a long time since reviewing drum and bass videos. So to jog our memory I have found some music videos that may help with editing to achieve the type of video we want and also to help keep it in the style of drum and bass.

From this selection of videos there is a range that were all made in different genres. This has helped to see how drum and bass music videos have evolved. The most inspirational out of them all is probably Rudimental - Powerless. It starts slow like our song and then when the drum and bass kicks in movement is prominent. This feature is very important as it shows a contrast between the slow and fast pace visually. Hopefully we can portray this in our video.

The video is also in black and white and features city scenes, we have been doubting our video because it was in black and white and didnt think it would fit the genre. But watching not just this video but others similar that effects like this can work for the drum and bass genre.
