Editing Stills Analysis- Catriona Morgan

The first clip we created of a girl band was a group of girls dancing, however we filmed it from a low angle, so they could only be seen from the knees down. To improve it, we decided we needed to change costume, so therefore wore black dresses and heels (to appear more like a girl band) as well as having better framing. For this reason, we filmed in the changing rooms as they have lights around the mirrors, which makes it more 'girly' and 'poppy'. Positioning was better the second time round as you can see, the girls are sat evenly spaced apart to make it appear symmetrical and has just clearly been thought about much more than the first take. We edited one of our clips in an attempt to make it appear like a girl band. We did this by adding a pink filter as well as the distorting effect to make it more interesting, however to improve I think we shouldn't add the filter as it is not typical of the pop genre. It conforms to Mulvey's Theory of The Male Gaze, and that women are nothing more than objects to be desired by men as they are positioned centrally in the clip, as well as through the use of costume as they're wearing dresses and make-up, making them appear more 'desirable'.
