Editing Videos

This still reflects the genre of R'nB because we chose to film the clip in a location which had graffiti, and we made sure our costumes were appropriate and linked to the genre. We cropped plain wall out of the image so that the Mise en scene fitted our genre and we enhanced the colour to highlight the artist against the wall. We challenged Laura Mulvey's theory of the male gaze, as R&B is usually a largely dominated male music genre so we featured a female artist.  The artist challenged the stereotype that 'Men act and Women appear', by replacing the male artist with a female artist. I think enhancing the colour was effective in this shot as it highlighted the artist more. I think if were to recreate this shot again, I would make sure that there is no artificial light hitting the background, so that the colours would be balanced. I think I would use this in my music video, as if i were making an image based video, the colours highlight the artist in the foreground. Although it is graffitied, there are no distractions in the background, which I think would suit our music video style.
