After shooting stills and editing them on Final Cut Express, we choose the most and least effective photos that could be used for music videos in the genre in Image, Performance and Narrative.
Most effective stills
Most effective stills
Image This still best represents the genre of image because the main emphasis is put upon the two people centre to frame. Although you can not see there faces, its mainly focused on there bodies, which could potentially appeal to a male audience. The negative to this still is that it does not feature the persons head, which would be the main feature the audience look for.
Performance We chose a split screen edit on this image for performance. This was a good choice because the angle at which we took the still made a V shape which leads the eye to see the movement of the fingers playing on the piano.
Narrative We chose this still as the best narrative because the split screen split into 4 showed all different stories happening at the same time making the still more interesting to look at. Also giving the audience a chance to analyse what is fully happening on screen.
Least effective stills
Image
We found that adding text did not work well with the image genre, as they detracted from the main image itself. The peoples heads were also not in frame making it hard to distinguish who the performers are.
Performance
As this was a good still, it also has negatives. The
disorientation of colour makes it confusing to actually see what is on screen. And the way in which it has been shot is from an odd angle, there is also unnecessary props in frame that don't relate to the performance genre.
