Research into music vlogs.

Music Artists such as ariana Grande create vlogs along side there official music channels in order to captivate the audience, but to also try and engage with them in a seperate way.
by vlogging she creates awareness of her brand but also shows a different side to the pop star.

vlogging helps advertise artists as actual normal human beings and this is also an effective way for artists to quell rumours about themseleves and help them to deny them.

The importance of vlogging would be associated with artists being able to reach out to there fans, but to also give fans an insight in to the life of there icon. Arianna Grande created a vlog to advertise herself as well as her music and acting career. vlogging therefore gives artists another side to them, and again allows the fans to engage, this would be because instead of artists reaching out to there fans over social media such as twitter, vlogging allows them to engage with there fans on a more personal level.

Vloggers and Popular Music Genres- Catriona Morgan

Vlogs are blogs in the style of  a video created by artists/YouTuber's. They can consist of anything, from them filming their daily lives, to recording themselves in rehearsals or band practice etc. It is a great and easy way for the artist/YouTuber to have direct contact with their fans/viewers. For example, a band called Hey Violet (who create music of the pop punk genre) create many 'video diaries' of them either on tour or recording new music. The video I've attached is of them showing their fans the studio in which they rehearse.

.

Another example of a vlogger is Troye Sivan, (who creates music of the alternative/indie genre) who is currently using his vlog channel not only to announce his new album, but release snippets of his new songs and music videos. Again, it is such an easy way for him to share up and coming news instantly with his subscribers, which stays there permanently for anyone to watch at a later date or again and again. The vlog I've attached below is him announcing his new album.

As you can see, there are multiple genre types, varying from pop (Justin Bieber), to indie pop (Ellie Goulding), to PBR&B (The Weekend.) I think the only song in the current top 10 that sounds anything similar to our song would be 'Peanut Butter Jelly' by Galantis, as the duo create electronic music, which I personally think sounds similar to our song when it reaches the chorus. This suggests that, in terms of our song's success in the mainstream charts, it may not be as successful as songs from an alternative genre, such as pop and R&B.

Similarly, Drum and Bass artists use vlogs in the same way as artists from alternative genres. In the one above they use a vlog to show the people subscribed to their channel what they got up to in the recording studio. This is useful for the artist as it can get their fans excited for their new music, as well as drawing attention of new fans through YouTube's 'recommended for you' section, where videos appear similar to the ones you've been watching. This enables them to be able to reach out to more people with their music, increasing the success of it.

The current most popular genre of music on the Radio 1 chart is Pop, closely followed by Dance and Electronic.  The top spot is currently held by Pop artist, Justin Bieber. Drum and bass is a sub genre of Electronic and Dance music, and when looking at the charts I can see similar artists and music styles to ours.
