What makes a Music Video creative through MES, Cinematography and editing ?
Here I will be analysing what makes a Music Video creative by looking at MES, cinematography and editing. I will be using a students video and a professional one to analyse what is good and bad about, and what techniques and effects I could put into mine.
Let Go
This students music video received 49/50 marks overall and you are able to see why when watching it. What's good about this video is that the props have been used in an original and very creative way. The ribbons show flowing forms to restrictions, meaning there is no limit as to what can be used to display and array of uses and meanings.
The cinematography is also very good, there is always an array of different shots, framing and movement which is not typical for this level of work. For example they use a birds eye view which is an original way to display what is happening.
The only negative things I have towards this video is the tinfoil mask, they make the video seem very amateurish but I can see why they may have been used them to compliment the colour scheme.
Where Are Ü Now
This professional Music Video received four nominations at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, winning the Best Visual Effects category and is why I have chosen it to analyse on MES, Cinematography and Editing. The things that I liked about this video and thought that was good is the editing and originality behind it. The video features a gathering of people painting on stills of Justin Bieber performing, they all get put together in the style of stop motion, creating a strobe effect of changing illustrations. This is a new and original idea that I have never seen before and is why I appreciate it as it probably took a long time to creatively edit.
There really isn't anything I dislike about this video and can understand the good reviews and awards it received.
What has inspired me ?
By analysing these two different videos I believe I could use aspects of there videos in mine. For example I love the idea of having a colour scheme like in Let Go, but I also love the idea of stop motion it could easily be done and also creates a strobe effect that could be good ton include in the drum and bass parts of our video.
