Strauss' Theory is the belief that a video should include a conflict between opposites, for example good vs. evil, love vs. hate etc. Only one can be included in each video. The advantages of applying this theory is that it makes it more interesting for the audience to watch and it may make the audience want to watch it more than once as they are trying to decode the meaning, or it could have the opposite effect and cause them to only watch it once if they figure out the meaning after watching it once. However, we applied this to our song by coming up with the binary opposites of a journey and staying still.
The second theory comes from Todorov, who created the Three Stage Theory of equilibrium, disruption and resolution. The positives of this theory is that it can relate to the lyrics, making it easier for the audience to understand. As well as this, the audience may feel as if they can relate to the narrative, possibly meaning they'll watch it more than once. However the negatives could be that the theory could be expected by the audience, meaning it's predictable and boring. Again, we applied this theory to our plans for our music video.
